Happy ThanksGiving Everybody!

What a wonderful day. Being thankful for what you have.
I know you got a lot!
You got a life, food, shelter and hey, you got an internet connection.
But most of all you got possibilities.
Lets talk about Tulip, who’s possibilities were once pretty limited on a day like that.
…and still a door opened for him.

This is Tulip
He got born into this world as a turkey.
He looked pretty cute than.

Unfortunately his surroundings did not look very pretty at all.
It was dark and sticky and his folks were so many that there was no place to rest. He lived there for months in sheds where he was packed so tightly that flapping a wing or stretching a leg was nearly impossible.

He was covered in his own poop and he had infections on his feet and below his wings. It was truly a horrible life. Stink, pain and stress was pretty much everything he ever knew. He had to stand in waste, and urine and ammonia fumes burned his eyes and lungs.

Tulip’s predestination was to end up as a corpse on the table on someone’s Thanksgiving table.

At the slaughterhouse, turkeys have their throats slit while they are still conscious. Those who miss the automated knife are scalded to death in the defeathering tank.

So, for ThanksGiving , Tulip got transported to his final destination.
Together with all his fellow species. What a scary day that was.

ThanksgivingFear was in the air and standing on his infected legs were hurting with every movement of the truck.
Suddenly a push and an open door. The driver did not proper fix the cages. Tulip was flung through the air and pushed of the driving truck. He suffered several injuries and still, this was his lucky day.

He found people who healed him, comforted him and treated him with respect. He found shelter in somebody’s lab and for the first time in his life, he felt save, pain free and the grass underneath him.

Today Tulip lives at a New York Shelter and expects a life as he earns it. A life full of joy.

This Thanksgiving he gets his own ThanksGiving meal.
Together with other once presumed dead.

And today, I adopted him!
Tulip, what a precious, lucky, little guy.
I hope his luck rubs a bit off on me. 😉
Adapt a turkey too!

Adapt a turkey too!
Turkeys are “smart animals with personality and character, and keen awareness of their surroundings,” Oregon State University poultry scientist Tom Savage says. Turkeys are social, playful birds who enjoy the company of others. They relish having their feathers stroked and like to chirp, cluck, and gobble along to their favorite tunes. Anyone who spends time with them at farm sanctuaries quickly learns that turkeys are as varied in personality as dogs and cats.
Adapt a turkey too!
